Pest control redesign
Motivation: the nets made it annoying to water the plants, and the beans and tomatoes were getting crowded.

I completely lost track of which of the cruciferae plants are cabbages, broccoli, or cauliflower. It will be a surprise!

Cucumbers
The cucumber plants seem to be growing finally. After three unsuccessful attempts to seed them outdoors, seeding them indoors did the trick.
It turns out that transplanting them before they developed real leaves doesn’t seem to have been a problem so far, despite the warnings of all the gardening blogs.

Green beans
A handful of beans for dinner. Eight weeks after planting. Next year I will need to plant 4x the number of plants if I want to make a meal out of a single harvest.

Update on mystery plant: it's edamame!
I dug up the mystery plant and realized it’s some kind of bean. Some queries to google images revealed that it’s likely edamame! It must have come from the compost. Amazing.
I put him back in the ground to see if he grows.

Mystery plant
I haven’t been having so much luck in my second garden. The lettuce, Swiss chard and beans are doing ok, but I also planted cucumber, cantelope, zucchini, butternut squash, cauliflower and cabbage, and nothing seems to be sprouting. Then this little guy showed up. At first I was very excited…but it looks suspicious. Not like any veggie seedling I’ve seen before. I suspect it’s a weed but I’ll give it a few days.

Beets at four weeks
I accidentally planted too many beets, so I had to pull some out to give the others room to grow.
At four weeks, it’s all greens and no bulb.
But I was happy to throw the greens into a salad.
